Playoff Information

Posted by Dubuque Independent Football League at Sep 25, 2014 7:33AM PDT

Although there is still a lot of great football to be played, the Board of Directors wanted to share some information about what will occur in the upcoming Playoff portion of the DIFL season (currently scheduled for 10/12, 10/19 and 10/25). The D1 and D2 teams finishing in the top 8 positions will compete in a bracketed Playoff. Those D1 and D2 teams that finish outside of the top 8 positions will compete in a single “+1” or extra game against a team that also finished outside of the top 8. D3 teams will not have an opportunity to compete beyond their scheduled regular season games. Each team’s win/loss record will be the primary means of seeding teams in the Playoffs. In the instance of a tie (that is, teams having the same win/loss record), the Board will use the following criteria for seeding (in order): (1) the teams’ records against one another; (2) strength of schedule; and (3) the teams’ records against common opponents. The number of points scored or allowed by a particular team during regular season play will not be used as a seeding criteria. Also, Playoff brackets at the D1 and D2 levels will be laid out such that: #1 plays #8; #4 plays #5; #3 plays #6; and #2 plays #7. The Board will provide additional information and specific dates, times and locations for all post regular season play in the near future. Let’s have a great next couple weeks of regular season play!
